THE ADMISSIONS LANDSCAPE TODAY

More Competitive Than Ever

Despite the growing rate of tuition, college admissions are more competitive (and confusing) than ever before. For these reasons and many others, thousands of college applicants have sought the help of professional college admissions consultants to ensure they are as competitive and attractive as they can be as applicants.

In today’s college admission world, there is much more to college admissions than your GPA and SAT scores. Most colleges use a “holistic” admissions process, meaning they consider all parts of a prospective student’s application, including test scores, GPA, the difficulty of the high school course load, the high school ranking, the application essay, extracurricular activities, community service, work history, and much more.

And while it’s certainly possible to be admitted to your top school choice by approaching the admissions process on your own, your chances are significantly higher if you enlist the help of a professional college admissions consultant.

With a public secondary school student-to-counselor ratio 376-to-1, according to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC)’s 2017–18 Counseling Trends Survey, it’s no surprise that students and parents can be confused about the college admissions process—they shouldn't have to wait two weeks to sit down with their counselor. That is where we come in.

I am committed to helping all of my clients find and secure admission to the schools that are the best fit for their individual needs.

ABOUT ME

I founded The Edge College Counseling  with a single mission: to help students and their families navigate the often confusing and stressful process of applying to college. I do not specialize in getting my clients into Ivy League schools, or any particular "type" of school; what I do specialize in is finding the RIGHT school for you.

I am an independent admissions counselor with a small, limited number of clients who receive my undivided attention any time of day, or night. The admissions process can be incredibly stressful for students and their families and my job is to reduce or eliminate that stress and make the process what it should be: exciting and fun. I work with clients in the Denver—Boulder area, but have clients from around the country as well.

My Background

Education has been my passion for nearly two decades. After earning my B.A. in English from the University of California, Irvine, I went on to attend Gonzaga University School of Law. After passing the California Bar Exam, I practiced business litigation law for several years before founding The 180° Group, a successful consulting firm in Beverly Hills, California. No longer able to ignore the calling to teach, however, I decided to return to graduate school to pursue a career in education.

After completing my M.A. in English at Loyola Marymount University, I was accepted into the doctoral program in English at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I earned my Ph.D. in English literature in 2014. I have won numerous teaching awards and am an internationally published author. I taught at the university level for 14 years and now teach AP Literature and Composition in Broomfield, Colorado.

I also served as an Advanced Placement grader for the AP Literature & Composition exam for six years and was a magazine editor for over seven years for an international sports news publication.

In addition to teaching, I have spent the past eight years working as an independent admissions consultant and have worked with clients from around the country. While my clients have been admitted to some of the most prestigious schools in the country, the fact about which I am most proud is that not one of them has ever transferred—that means we got it right.
